Heritage Morning – Priory Road Cemetery
Saturday 16th September 2023 – 10am to 1pm.
Huntingdon Crematorium and Cemeteries hosted a Heritage Morning at Priory Road Cemetery and Chapel on Saturday 16th September 2023 between 10am and 1pm.
The cemetery and chapel was open to the public in the morning, allowing any persons who wanted to trace interments of long-lost relatives look at the cemetery records (which date back to the 1850s) or have a walk around the peaceful cemetery. Help was also available for anyone searching for specific graves and 2 guided walks took place in the morning.
Priory Road Cemetery was established in the 1850s and the Chapel was built early 1800s. It was originally two chapels for separate non – conformist and Christian worship.
There was much interest in the event. Many people took the opportunity to look at old records, reuniting them with lost relatives and family friends. The tours which guided people and provided interesting information on war graves and notable people within the cemetery, were well attended.
Please note there will be no refreshments available, so people should bring a bottle of water/drink with them and also wear suitable shoes and clothing if attending a guided walk.
Access restrictions: Walking – comfortable footwear, clothing for inclemental weather. Walks will be kept to main pathways.
Please ensure a bottle of water is brought with you/food – as there is no facility in place for refreshments.
Any persons with a real passion for history or know further information on the cemetery and the persons buried please get in touch with us. We hope holding these events will help form a volunteers, Friends of Priory Road Cemetery. Please get in touch.
