Private Ernest Edward Howes

Ernest Howes was born in 1883 in Huntingdon to Alfred and Violet Howes. He was the oldest of six children.

He became an apprentice gas fitter before becoming a private in the British Army, serving in the Huntingdon Cyclist 3rd/1st Battalion during World War 1. The 3rd/1st Battalion was formed in 1915 as a depot/training unit and was part of the Highland Cyclist Battalion which was formed in Kirkcaldy in November 1915 as a department/training unit. The unit remained in the UK until it disbanded in March 1916.

Ernest died on 11th April 1915 whilst still in active service.
