Sergeant John Bentley Hammond

John Hammond enlisted in Euston in August 1940 and was appointed as a Class F Reservist Militia Sergeant. He served in the 15th Squadron of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve which was based at RAF Wyton in Cambridgeshire

He was killed in action in Brettenham  on 12th August 1942 when attempting to Land At RAF Wattisham following combat damage From Ju88s during a raid on Mainz, Only one of the crew survived.

He is buried in Priory Road Cemetery in Huntingdon (Grave Ref YY23)
