Trooper Eric Dilley
Eric was a Trooper in the 10th Australian Light Horse Regiment, recruited in Western Australia during the First World War. The regiment was raised in October 1914, when it was apparent that Western Australia could provide more than a single squadron of mounted soldiers. The Regiment joined the 3rd Light Horse Brigade in Egypt and served at Gallipoli. The Regiment’s most famous actions were the charge at the Nek on 7th August 1915 and Hill 60 on 29th-30th August.
Eric was discharged from the Light Horse regiment on 17th October 1919 from London as he was medically unfit. He had served 4 years and 362 days and was awarded the Silver War Badge. He died on the 6th April 1921, aged 30, as a result of illness contracted whilst on active service in the Great War.
He is buried in Priory Road Cemetery, Grave Ref F.24
