Greener Globe Funeral Standard – Huntingdon first in UK to be awarded Platinum
Huntingdon Town Council is proud to announce that the Crematorium has been awarded the Platinum Standard under the Greener Globe Funeral Standard, achieving an outstanding 97.1% score, the highest level of accreditation available. This remarkable accomplishment makes Huntingdon the first crematorium in the UK to reach Platinum status.
The Greener Globe Funeral Standard is a rigorous environmental framework that evaluates funeral sector organisations across areas including carbon reduction, energy use, biodiversity, water stewardship, waste management, and community impact. The Platinum award represents exemplary performance and a long‑term commitment to environmental responsibility.

Light Up the Night – Huntingdon Crematorium
A reflective evening of remembrance – Wednesday 26th November 2025
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent Remembrance Service.
We read aloud the names of loved ones, lit candles together, and offered space for quiet reflection. Guests were also invited to place names on the Remembrance Tree in the chapel foyer.
We are grateful to all who attended and helped make the evening meaningful.
Recycling of Metals – Huntingdon Crematorium
Huntingdon Crematorium are members of the ICCM Recycling of Metals Scheme. With the consent of the Applicant for cremation, any metals recovered after the cremation process are recycled.
The scheme is the largest national scheme, that delivers the highest possible rate of return from processing and selling recycled metals to the largest possible market to generate the most funds for charities and not for profit.
Since the ICCM began the scheme, it has generated over £22 million for good causes in the UK. The latest round which finished in February 2025, generated £1.6 million via 198 separate nomination requests.
Huntingdon Crematorium nominated MAGPAS Air Ambulance to receive the 2025 round of donations.
Past Events Light Up The Night 2024 – Huntingdon Crematorium Chapel
On 27th November 2024, Huntingdon Crematorium once again hosted its annual Light up the Night Event, to support Cruse Bereavement . A memorial service taken by local celebrant Brenda Woods included poems, readings and a visual tribute consisting of images sent into the crematorium set to a piece of music.
Attendees also had the opportunity to place a message tag on the tree in the crematorium foyer and to collect led tea-lights which were carried over to Sapley Lodge after the service. After a short dedication poem, the tea-lights were placed under the tree outside Sapley Lodge, lighting up the night sky.
Light refreshments were served in the Lodge and counsellors from Cruse were on hand to provide support.
Heritage Morning – Priory Road Cemetery
Huntingdon Crematorium and Cemeteries hosted a Heritage Morning at Priory Road Cemetery and Chapel on Saturday 14th September 2024.
Priory Road Cemetery was established in the 1850s and the Chapel was built early 1800s. It was originally two chapels for separate non – conformist and Christian worship.
The cemetery and chapel was open to the public in the morning to allow any persons who wanted to trace interments of long-lost relatives, look at the cemetery records which date back to the 1850s or just have a walk around the peaceful cemetery. Help was available for anyone searching for specific graves and there was a WW1 walk and talk held at 11am.
Huntingdon Crematorium Father’s Day Service
Huntingdon Crematorium hosted its Father’s Day Service at 6pm on 12th June in Huntingdon Crematorium Chapel.
The service was well received and attendees had the opportunity to place their flowers in the memorial flower holder and watch a visual tribute with messages set to music during the service.
A big thank you to Sue Dewing who provided a lovely service.
Huntingdon Crematorium Open Morning
Huntingdon Crematorium hosted tours of the crematorium on Saturday 18th May 2024 to enable visitors to see what goes on behind the scenes. Huntingdon Crematorium’s staff provided tours of the building and answered questions to help dispel any myths or anxieties visitors may have about cremation or the burial process.
The next Open Day will be in 2026.
Mother’s Day Service 2024
Huntingdon Crematorium once again hosted its Mother’s Day service on Wednesday 6th March 2024 in the Crematorium Chapel.
We would like to thank Brenda Woods for providing such a moving service, for Jo Chapman for her lovely poem and for everyone who sent in their photos and messages
Light Up the Night 2023
Huntingdon Crematorium hosted Light up the Night once again, to support Cruse Bereavement. A well attended memorial service was held at 6pm, hosted by officiant, Brenda Woods who lit a candle to burn throughout the service. The candle was then carried over to Sapley Lodge where families placed LED candles at the remembrance tree and hung slate hangers with their own messages. Cruse were in attendance where they provided an overview during the service of the role of Cruse in bereavement support.
We would like to thank everyone who came along to the event, Cruse for their support during the evening, Karl Webb for supplying the photos (gallery below) and Brenda for the lovely service.
